In this course, you will work with reading, writing, speaking, listening, and the study of vocabulary and grammar to build a broad and diverse set of literacy skills. Study classic literature as well as more contemporary forms, including media and multimedia products. Writing assignments focus on expository, narrative, and persuasive modes and emphasize the use of reasoning and details to support opinions.

In this course, the learners focus on integrated reading, writing, speaking, listening, and the study of vocabulary and grammar in a way that engages today’s learners and supports them in building a broad and diverse set of literacy skills. Learners study classic literature as well as more contemporary forms, including media and multimedia products. The first semester focuses on skills needed for literary text, the second semester focuses on skills for reading and analyzing informational text. Writing assignments focus on narrative, persuasive modes with an emphasis on reasoning and details with experience in expository writing and research. Also, learners will learn how to present information orally and use multimedia.

In this course, learners will grow in reading comprehension skills and strategies to help them become stronger readers. Learners will also master weekly spelling and vocabulary words and grammar concepts that will help them become stronger writers. New concepts are introduced through text, video, and interactives. Once introduced, new concepts are practiced through interactives and worksheets. Learners also complete weekly work that includes cursive handwriting, journal entries, and independent reading.

In this course, learners will learn how to spell and write vocabulary words, read more fluently, apply grammar concepts, and participate in handwriting and writing activities throughout each thematic unit. Learners also continue to master weekly sight words and reading and comprehension strategies to grow as readers.

This Chemistry course expands upon your basic understanding of chemistry. You’ll start by examining the properties of matter, including the types of bonds and forces that hold atoms and molecules together. After that, you'll explore the states of matter, phase changes, gas laws, and properties of solutions. Then you’ll learn about the thermodynamics and kinetics of chemical reactions, including why some reactions give off heat, while others consume it. You’ll also look at chemical equilibrium and electrochemistry. Finally, you’ll explore types of radiation and radioactive decay as well as the difference between nuclear fission and fusion. At the end of this course, you'll be able to evaluate the ethical, social, and economic implications of chemistry-related technologies.

In this course, you will journey through the earth and its many miracles. Begin by learning about the earth, the sun, and the moon. By participating in simple experiments, you will explore the water cycle, gravity, the weather and it’s patterns, various types of terrain, and the role of plants in the production of oxygen and their importance to human survival. Continue with root formation, the interdependence of plants and humans, biomes of land and sea, extreme weather, rocks, vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as extinction. Expand your knowledge through video, pictures, short readings, projects, and hands-on experiments. Understand that experiments require the use of instruments, observation, recording, and drawing evidence-based conclusions.
