Ancient Civilizations Course Introduction Transcript

Welcome to Ancient Civilizations A. You will study the beginning of early cultures, from the Stone Age in Africa to the Gupta Dynasty in India. You will get to see how geography, society, trade, and politics shapes everyday life. The look at geography includes more than just physical places. Geography can also describe other factors. These include politics, trade, resources, and migration. The course will focus on Mesopotamia, Egypt, Israel, and India.

This class will build your knowledge of history. You will explore the people and events that ushered in the dawn of history. This course emphasizes the lives, problems, and efforts of those who lived before us. You will focus on people’s role in building structures and ideas that transformed the world forever. You will develop higher levels of critical thinking by considering

  • why civilizations developed where and when they did
  • why they became dominant
  • why they declined

You will examine how these cultures affected each other and the world today.
