[ELA] Corrective Reading Semester A (1 of 1): Extended Campus (SM)

Course Introduction Transcript

Do you want to be a better reader and writer? Well, you are in the right place. Intensive Reading provides instruction and practice for developing reading and writing skills. You will learn and review skills for reading, comprehending, and analyzing fictional stories and informational articles. The lessons guide you to success in reading with understanding.

A review of phonics, decoding, and fluency skills reinforces basic reading techniques. You can key in on an author's intent as you learn to determine topics, central ideas, and themes. Making inferences and comparing and contrasting topics and themes can show you even more about an author's ideas. When you read nonfiction, you can determine arguments, claims, and evidence as you focus on more complex details and ideas. Another skill you can practice is integrating information from multiple articles. Writing responses helps to reinforce comprehension of what you have read.

This course aims to help you become a more effective reader. Reading effectively can help you wherever your career takes you.
