[MA] Algebra I Semester A (1 of 2): Extended Campus (SM)

Video Transcript for Algebra I (1 of 2) Introduction

Welcome to the course! This course will help you build upon your preexisting math knowledge, and it will prepare you for further studies in both algebra and geometry.

To aid your studies, you'll have access to interactive texts, instructional videos, and step-by-step examples, all of which will enhance your learning experience.

You'll also get the chance to explore one math topic in depth as you complete the projects.

In this course, you'll expand upon what you know about the real numbers by learning about rational exponents and radicals, and how they relate to rational and irrational numbers. You'll also deepen your understanding of lines and linear equations by developing your skills with linear systems and linear inequalities. You'll also have the opportunity to apply linear models to many different real-life situations.

Next, you'll begin your study of quadratic expressions and equations. First, you'll learn a bit about a new type of expression, called a polynomial. Then, you'll focus on a special type of polynomial, called a quadratic. Like linear expressions and equations, quadratic expressions and equations come in many forms and have important key features when graphed. They can also be used to model real-world situations, which you'll practice doing.

Online learning is a shared experience, so you'll also be given plenty of chances to interact with your fellow students and instructor to discuss your thoughts, ideas, and questions about the math concepts you're learning.

Now it's time to take the next big step in your math studies. Enjoy the course!
