[MA] Mathematics 7 Semester B (1 of 2): Extended Campus (SM)

Video Transcript: Course Introduction

Welcome to the course! Math 7B is the second half of seventh-grade math. This course will help you further your understanding of mathematics, and you’ll have the chance to apply what you’ve learned about numbers and equations to real-world situations.

To start, you’ll expand upon your number sense to subtract and divide using different methods. You’ll solve real-world and mathematical problems by applying properties of operations, which will help you achieve goals and find solutions in your everyday life. You'll study and interpret proportional relationships and equivalent expressions, and you’ll write and solve linear equations and inequalities to solve real-world problems.

It’s likely that you’re familiar with calculating probabilities for simple events. In this course, you’ll focus on probabilities of compound events. You’ll identify compound events and find their probabilities by using a formula, organized lists, tables, tree diagrams, or simulations. Next, you’ll move on to statistics. You’ll compare two data sets of random samples by visually examining their graphs or making some calculations. By doing this, you’ll make conclusions about the populations the data sets represent.

As you conclude the course, you’ll explore geometry. Geometry can show the physical side to mathematics, as well as the visual and artistic side. In the final unit, you’ll discover how things like area, surface area, volume, and cross sections can take shapes that you’re familiar with, and then you can expand on them.

Remember that online learning is a shared experience, so you’ll be given plenty of chances to share your ideas with your fellow students, and your instructor. You’ll be able to discuss your thoughts and ask questions about the math concepts you’re learning. Be sure to reach out to your instructor if you have any questions or concerns about your assignments.

Now it’s time to begin building and strengthening your math skills. We wish you great success as you take this important step in your studies.
